Volunteer coach starter kit
Start a youth sports season with a clear first practice, a short parent meeting, a communication plan, and reusable baseball, basketball, or football worksheets.
Confirm the league's rules
Before contacting families, ask for the current schedule, age-division rules, facility and equipment instructions, weather process, and the people responsible for scheduling and player welfare. Use the league's approved channels for private roster and contact information.
Plan the first practice
Choose one teaching focus. Make room for a welcome, a movement warm-up, two short activities, a small game, and a two-minute close. Write down equipment and setup beside each block. Simplify an activity if players are waiting too long.
Tell families what to expect
Send a short welcome with the first date, location, arrival point, what to bring, and the channel for changes or absences. Check participation and sideline expectations against your league's actual policy before sharing them.
