60-Minute 8U Baseball Practice Plan

A six-part baseball practice for 8U players that builds throwing, fielding, hitting, and base-running without long lines.

Audience: Volunteer baseball coaches working with 8U players and a small group of assistants.

How to use it

A six-part baseball practice for 8U players that builds throwing, fielding, hitting, and base-running without long lines.

  1. 0–8 min: Players find a partner, review the ready position, and complete moving throws from short distance.
  2. 8–20 min: Run a four-corner throwing progression: grip, step, point, and follow-through.
  3. 20–34 min: Rotate through ground-ball funnels, fly-ball communication, and glove-to-hand transfers.
  4. 34–48 min: Use two hitting stations—tee or front toss and a base-running read—while the third group fields.
  5. 48–56 min: Play a coach-pitch inning with one teaching pause per half-inning.
  6. 56–60 min: Players return equipment, share one cue, and leave through the same safe exit.

Setup notes

Mark three stations before practice and assign each assistant one job: feed, field, or retrieve. Use a designated on-deck spot and keep bats with the adult running the station.

Coach cues

  • Say 'ready, move, throw' instead of giving a long mechanics lecture.
  • Call the ball early on every fly-ball repetition.
  • Keep the next player behind a safety line until the hitter is finished.

Equipment

  • Baseballs
  • Gloves
  • Bats and helmets
  • Cones
  • Bases or flat markers

Watch for

  • Turning stations into batting lines
  • Adding live throws before players are ready
  • Allowing a loose bat or ball to cross a station
